Timaru, Mackenzie Country and Southern Alps, Mount Cook tour

Depart Timaru travelling inland over the South Canterbury rural farmland and over Burkes Pass into the picturesque area of the Mackenzie Country.

Famous for its numerous natural and man-made glacial and snow fed lakes and canals associated with New Zealand's largest hydro-electricity schemes. The picturesque Mackenzie Country region is steeped in history and home to the spectacular glacial fed lakes of Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki.

We travel up the 1,031m. high Mount John, to New Zealands best coffee between earth and sky at the Astro Café that provides a spectacular and unobstructed 360 degree views of the region. The area is bordered by New Zealand's majestic snow covered Southern Alps mountains, the highest being Aoraki Mount Cook with its elevation of 3,754m that towers above its near neighbour Mount Tasman, being New Zealand's second highest mountain. The ice capped mountain scenery, the lakes along with the crystal clear sky are all part of an outstanding touring day to remember.

Following departure from the Mount Cook region we return to Timaru and should time allow, a tour the city of Timaru before returning to the port.

Timaru, Inland Rural South Canterbury & the MacKenzie Country. 

Depart from the port of Timaru travelling inland into the South Canterbury rural farmland and passing through a number of small country towns on route before the climb over Burkes Pass into the picturesque area of the Mackenzie Country and the glacial and snow fed lake of Tekapo.

The picturesque Mackenzie Country region is steep in history and is the home to the world famous and much photographed Church of the Good Shepherd. Whilst in Tekapo travel up the 1,031m high Mount John with its world class Night Sky observatory and New Zealands best coffee between earth and sky at the Astro Café that also provides a spectacular and unobstructed 360 degree views of the MacKenzie Basin region.

Depart Tekapo for the rural town of Fairlie (famous for its much sought after range of  meat pies at the towns bakery), travel scenic inland rolling farmland to the tranquil township of Geraldine. Geraldine being the home of Barkers extensive range of fruit products, Talbot silverware and Talbot Forest cheeses, all being a popular stop for overseas visitors.

Depart Geraldine travelling via the coastal road back to the city of Timaru and should time allow, a tour of the citys highlights before returning the port.

Timaru, Coastal South Canterbury and North Otago.

Depart early from the port of Timaru travelling south along the eastern coastline of the South Island, passing through rural farmland and small villages before arriving at the historic township of Oamaru. Oamaru was once home to bustling coastal shipping port and the support facilities associated with shipping. With shipping no longer present, the Victorian Harbour precinct area with its grand old limestone buildings have since been fully restored and are now home to a variety of boutique shops, galleries, cafes and museums that enable the remembering and telling of the regions past.

From Oamaru travel South to the tiny coastal village of Moeraki with its curved sandy beach being home to a cluster of very large spherical stones that were formed on the sea floor around 60 million years ago everybody that visits the round boulders takes home many pictures of the fascinating objects.

As well as the Moeraki Boulders, the town is home to the regions famous 'Fleurs Place', it being a somewhat rustic, but of high quality sea-food restaurant located on a jetty right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

Amongst the many menu items their range of specialty fish is cooked  and served straight from the local Moeraki fishing boats it being fresher than fresh!

After a relaxing lunch at 'Fleurs Place' the tour returns back to the city of Timaru  and should time allow, a tour of the citys highlights before returning the port.
