The Hanmer Springs region is home to an extremely picturesque and tranquil township that is situated inland and is around a 1.5 hour picturesque drive north of Christchurch. 

Once a farming area service centre, and now a popular inland alpine holiday resort and tourist village that is surrounded by mountains that are majestically snow-capped during the winter.

The area includes a wide range of pleasure activities that can include relaxing in the famous open air thermal pools complete with water slides. Options of bungy jumping, river jet boating, rafting, and quad biking. 

Should time permit during the travel back to Christchurch, a stop for some wine tasting at one of the many wineries in the Waipara Valley region may be an option.
