Akaroa and Volcanic Peninsula Tour

Banks Pen

Akaroa NZ

An approximate 6 hour day tour for visitors to Christchurch.

Akaroa is a small holiday resort settlement 1.5 hours travelling time by road over an extremely scenic volcanic peninsula route travelling from Christchurch.

Akaroa is a very quaint and very picturesque village situated on the edge of an extinct volcano harbour that has a history of both French and English influence in its layout and appearance. The area contains many places of interest such as boutique craft stores, quality restaurants & cafes, an historical Maori Museum or New Zealand specialty cheese tasting at a local cheese factory.

For the more adventuresome one may take a cruise on the harbour, or swim with the Hector dolphins, test one's skills at kayaking, or take a look around a number of nearby places such as the Giants House or Historic village.

The journey to Akaroa includes touring the now extinct volcano crater rims of both the Lyttelton and Akaroa harbours and from the 475m (1500 feet) high vantage points along the way, one can experience many breathtaking views of the numerous bays located around the Peninsula area.
